Mentoring

I believe in the power of stories.

Some of my youngest memories are of my dad sitting at the table at my grandparents’ home, holding a circle of people in the palm of his hand.

With his words.

Dad was a weaver of tales.

But as a 9th grade English teacher, Dad was also a bit fanatical about words, publicly correcting our speech and grammar mistakes when we were children.

One time he even sent back a letter I had written to him, neatly corrected—with a red pen.

Like I said. Fanatical about words.

I did not realize the inner red pen I carried with me—an unhealthy inner narrative—until years later when I was married, with several children of my own. One phone call changed the course of my life. It also began the journey of redemption for me and my dad as I found the strength to stop listening to the lies of The Red Pen.

To read the full story of The Red Pen, please go here.

Do you have your own red pen, a critique that keeps you from working on your story? Are you tired of listening to that inner narrative that keeps you from moving forward?

If you are at a point where you want to silence the inner voice of The Red Pen, I would love to help you.

I specialize in family legacy stories and memoir writing. I also have a passion to help people with a difficult story effectively reach their audience through the spoken word.

I am a Voice of Hope with The American Cancer Society and have been a Story Coach for several cancer organizations, including Survivors Tell a Real Story (STARS) at Scottsdale Theater of Performing Arts for the nonprofit, A 2nd Act.
