The Conclusion to a Search for Beauty Or Maybe a Beginning

As we conclude this series, this search for beauty, I wanted to write something profound, words worthy of a tweet, meme or quote, but I find myself without any words, which is alright, because isn't the best beauty found in the wonder that erases the consonants and vowels from our vocabulary.  We need moments...lifetimes...with the Infinite.

We don't need conclusions, we need many more beginnings.

I am in the middle of a huge writing project, working on three big speaking engagements, and the details of four other smaller due dates. My calendar is exploding out the seams--if calendars were held together with stitches.

Mine seems to be held together at the moment by fast food lunches, sticky counter tops, desperate prayers, and mornings that begin too early.

This is what living out the yes looks like right now for me.

Yet my heart yearns for beauty.

I MUST find it, for discovering beauty in the place where I live boomerangs me back to God, the creator of all that is good, hope-filled, and breathtaking.

Doesn't your own heart long for wonder?

I've been snatching beauty when I can: when I walk the dog at the park, when I set up a table to write next to a bird feeder outside, as I answer emails and phone calls from those who walk as Image Bearers of the King (oh, how beautiful you are!!), as I speak at events and encourage cancer survivors, as I attend political events with my husband, as I stop to NOTICE:

  • the faint tangerine of twilight.

  • the sun hitting the coral feathers --just right--of a house finch

  • a fat saguaro next to its skinny siblings

  • a scripture verse that speaks to me--right here, right now.

  • one evening home after countless nights not home, eating homemade pasta with my people

  • sharing hard stories with those in my sphere of influence

  • anticipating Easter

May you discover your own places of beauty in ordinary places, often hidden from view. May your search for beauty not reach a conclusion, but find endless beginnings.

Isn't Easter all about wonder found in mystery and aren't we people of the resurrection? Ponder that for a moment.

Happy Resurrection Week!
