How a Stinky Flower Stumped Grandma

My oldest grandson, Micah, age ten, has a favorite game he loves to play whenever I visit:

Stump Grandma. It's right up there in popularity with Stump The Parents.

A facts and figures kid who loves numbers and data, he was excited to learn that the book, How Great is Our God: 100 Devotions about God and Science had two other books in the set. He had already read How Great is Our God from cover to cover. Currently he is also re-reading the book in the evenings with his mom before bed.

Last weekend, when I pulled out the two other books, Indescribable and The Wonder of Creation, Micah didn't even wait for me to steep a cup of tea before he opened the first page of Indescribable and began:

  • What's the nickname of a stinky flower in Indonesia?*

  • What's the deepest part of the ocean?

  • How slow is a sloth?

He also had questions about the Biblical truths:

  • What does it mean to be a hypocrite?

  • Is a two-faced person a bad thing?

Meanwhile, his eight-year-old sister, Madelyn, read from The Wonder of Creation: 100 More Devotions about God and Science. She quietly noted the stories were divided into categories: Animals, Space, People and Earth and appreciated the scripture verse at the top of each devotion.

While his siblings devoured the books, five-year old Benjamin set up Stormtroopers and Jedi figurines for an epic battle in the galaxies. Not yet interested in reading, I look forward to the time when his creative-loving brain will take him in the pages of these books to places far-far away as he learns more about our God who nobody can out-imagine.

I absolutely love these high-quality, hardcover books. They received top reviews from all three generations in my family.

A+ Review.

Also. Micah won.

He stumped Grandma.
