Losing Your Stuffing

She was only doing what dogs do

playing with her toy

until overdoing love

exploded the stuffing all over the yardleaving a mess.

Which made me wonder--

What do I do with the pieces of me

I have left lying around?

The piece

left at a child's funeral last week.

The piece lost in a difficult conversation with a friend.

The piece that remains in my parents' kitchen in Minnesota.

Is it possible not to overdo love?

To not lose our stuffing?

If your heart is broken, you'll find God right there;

If you're kicked in the gut, he'll help you catch your breath.

Psalm 34:18 MSG
