When they were giving out Official Titles at a college group where my daughter is in leadership, she missed the day when they voted for all the important people:

The President

The Secretary

and The Treasurer

and she had to settle for the title of:

The Minister of Joy.

A lesser-known title

that has never been bestowed on anyone before

but which is perfect for her (and maybe, as it turns out, is the most important title of all).

Because although Aleah has a quiet, reserved nature and likes to study ancient Greek and is more comfortable in front of a computer than before a group of people, there are times when spontaneity and whimsy and absolute happiness bubble out with pink shoes and cupcakes and throwing leaves in the air,

with drawings of crocodiles

and penguins who go on courageous adventures

like climbing trees and meeting porcupines and making friends with butterflies

And in those moments

Joy is born.
