When Sadness Stands At the Doorstep of Happiness

Today I cannot seem to find words.

Rejoicing with a friend who got married this weekend. Sorrowing with a family who lost their mom/wife/grandma to cancer.

"Rejoice with those who rejoice. Mourn with those who mourn," Romans 12:15 instructs us.

Be present and real with people in your life.

I am in a sad/happy/reflective/questioning frame of mind.

Today I want to share with you a blog posting that has found the words I cannot seem to say, by author, Micha Boyett, blogging over at A Holy Experience.

She writes of helpful words from a counselor during a sad season:

"Sadness is one of the Beatitudes: 'Blessed [or in some translations, 'Happy'] are those who mourn, for they will be comforted' ...

This suggest that sadness is very, very close to happiness ... there is no true happiness without its wistful tint of divine sadness--and no sadness that doesn't stand on the doorstep of happiness." - from Practicing the Presence of People by Mike Mason

Boyett continues, "I love the kindness of this idea. I love that Jesus' words are, "Happy are the sad people."To read all of Micha Boyett's words, which I found so helpful, click here:

The One Unlikely Secret to Hold Onto When You're Sad.

Sadness standing at the doorstep of happiness. I like that. Makes me think of the giant doors we saw in Peru, doors that made me feel small and I wondered how I'd ever open them. Sadness is kinda like that for me. I wonder how I will ever open the door and find happiness.

But I hang onto the words of Jesus, "Happy are the sad people, for they will be comforted."

I stand at the doorway. Will you join me?

Let's knock together.
