Celebrating Time With You

We didn't get together because it was anyone's birthday.

Or because it was Christmas. Or a graduation. Or a wedding.

My mom, two sisters, one sister-in-law, two daughters, one daughter-in-law, one niece and a grandniece got together last weekend in Phoenix, Arizona for a Girls' Only Weekend - just because we could. We were four generations of women - age 11 months to seventy-four years - eating good food, laughing, going shopping, trying new makeup and sharing life together.

This past year my sister has dealt with MS complications, and I have dealt with breast cancer. Tiffany and her husband have had their first baby. Rachel and our son have purchased their first home. Liz, Lisa, Renae and I have watched our homes shrink as children have grown up and left home. My mom, the martriarch of the group, has kept us all connected with phone calls, emails and facebook updates.

In the book, Reaching Out, by Henry Nouwen, he writes, I have no problems this time, no questions to ask. I do not need counsel or advice, but I simply want to celebrate some time with you.

Ten of us ladies did that this past weekend.

We simply celebrated time together.
