Loose Change in the Pocket of God

"The fight is hard, but oh-so worth it.

Fight your battle this (day).

If you have nothing to fight for, change that."

- Nathaniel Dunigan, my friend and director of Aidchild.

Sometimes we don't know when we pray fighting prayers

used by God prayers

love like Jesus prayers

That it will mean days poured out

empty

depleted

That this prayer might render us speechless

Pain twisted inside our gut

until words can only escape in a sob

not organized

neat, little lives

but messy

raw

broken

Will we remember this is what we prayed for?

To be loose change in the pocket of God

spent for his glory

(But here's the part I love)

God does not leave us used-up

tarnished

dirty

In the currency of the kingdom

the more love spent

the more multiplied to give

How do you outspend infinity?

One salvaged penny

returned again and again

to be shined in the pocket of God

I think it is his breast pocket.

With five friends and both parents battling cancer, I find myself in a fight I would not have chosen, but I will join the fight none-the-less.

Maybe you are like me and feel no bigger than a penny. Choose to be spent anyway.

What is your fight?
