Super Heroes Among Us

With my friend Kathy English. We left glitter deposits whenever we moved. We have this thing for tutus at Chandler Relay.

My friends Paula Abasolo and Mike Perry

More super heroes among us: Tawny, Angela and Kathy

My family at kickoff. Todd came as Plaid Man. Service-dog-in-training, Penelope, wasn't too thrilled about the whole photo thing

Kevin obviously came as Clark Kent, bookended by volunteers Robin and Rogue (Angel and Ashley).

The Youngest Super Hero, Angela's granddaughter

Did you know there are superheroes among us?

I met several at our kickoff event this week for Chandler Relay for Life.

The Flash, in his comic book series, once said, "There comes a time when you've got to stop running away from things and you've got to start running towards something. You've got to forge ahead. Keep moving. Even if your path isn't lit, trust that you'll find your way."

There was a time I wanted to run from the emotional aftereffects of having cancer. I wanted to put it behind me and not have that label as a cancer survivor be a part of my life.

But then my dad got cancer. And then my mom.

The people at Chandler Relay For Life are one of the reasons I was able to quit running away and start running toward the belief that one day we will live in a world without cancer.  Until that time, I get to hang around some folks who on most days have packed their capes away and walk around looking like ordinary people.

Fortunately, for this event, the capes made a grand appearance. (Along with tutus, masks, boots for kicking cancer in the teeth, and lots of glitter!)

Superman (in his comic book series) once said, "Dreams save us. Dreams lift us up and transform us and on my soul, I swear, until my dream of a world where dignity, honor and justice becomes the reality we all share, I'll never stop fighting. Never."

I would like to add to that quote: "On my soul, I swear, until my dream of a world without cancer becomes the reality we all share, I'll never stop fighting. Never."

My friends at Chandler Relay for Life join me in that pledge.

This was a huge planning event for me as the new Event Lead for Relay 2016. Will you join me and my friends in celebrating a sense of purpose and accomplishment?I hope you are encouraged today as you live out your own dreams and paths of purpose.
